All About Me

My name is Cyndi Bree and I am seeking certifications to teach EC - 6, and All level Special Education. I am on track to graduate in May of 2015. I am currently a Special Education Aide for the North Lamar ISD, specifically for a student on the Autism spectrum. My interest in Special Education arose from personal experiences with a developmentally challenged sister while I was growing up, and also experiences with one of my sons who has need of some Special Education services. I have worked for several school districts in the past and I have always felt drawn to helping students with developmental disabilities be successful in their academic careers.
My "dream job" is teaching a self-contained Special Education class between 3rd and 6th grade. I would like to be able to integrate technology into the curriculum to better communicate with nonverbal students and to scaffold the knowledge base of other verbal students. It is widely known that the use of educational technology in the SPED classroom can greatly increase the communicative abilities of nonverbal students, and also allow for greater teacher understanding of the students' comprehension of the classroom objectives. I am unsure of what specific software and hardware is even available at this point in time, though I hope to learn several throughout this course.
My goals for this class are to learn what educational technologies are available for use by the classroom teacher, specifically those designed to help Special Education students. I also need to know how to plan for the use of  and implement those technologies effectively during instruction. Another personal goal is to learn what the specific advantages to the students when those tools are brought into the classroom and how to directly align them to the TEKS.
