Web tools provide a more efficient way to share information with other people. Unlike the use of email, web tools allow others to interact, edit or add to information using the same original document. Blogs allow for discussions of a particular topic between a number of people. There are many different sites for blogs and wikis. They can be made for private use or seen by anyone. Most blog and wiki sites are free. Some are purchased if you want different features for them. The use of Wikis are different from a blog. Using a Wiki allows others to edit, revise and add links to the document. If a voice thread is used, then commenting to a document can be done with a voice thread feature. Voice thread features usually last thirty seconds but can be longer depending on if the free one is used or the one that is paid for.
The use of web tools such as wikis, would be very useful in the classroom. It would allow students to work together and express their own ideas in a creative and collaborative manor. It would prepare today's students for the working community. When students get creative and put thier own knowledge on a web page it allows the teacher to get a more accurate account of what the student knows. In order for a positive impact to be made in educating students there needs to be more of an emphasis on the importance of technology. Its been my experience that school computers are limited in the classroom and most websites are filtered out so that they can not be used. I do feel that the use of technology in our schools support learning and allows students to become more engaged in the tasks to be learned. The use of technology creates adults who are ready for the working environment.
Cynthia, I as well agree that tools such as wikis and voice threads could be very useful in classrooms. In today's world, Students live around technology, and incorporating things like this in a classroom, I believe would keep them engaged in the tasks needed as well. I think that the bookmark websites like delicious.com is very interesting and could be shared around with other teachers in the schools to helps each other out.
